We are already buddy-buddy, and Trudeau is, after all, Castro's son. But still, just saying "Cuba" is not an answer—so then, how could Cuba save us?
Contrary to what most people believe, Cuba is not in trouble because of communism; the reason Cuba is struggling is because of capitalism. Now, I'm no communist, and communism is not the reason Cuba wasn’t struggling before. The reason Cuba used to be stable was that they were food independent by forcing people to work on farms. When the government liberalized, farmers flocked to the cities to make more money, and the already fragile country then got hit with COVID.
The Cubans need more farmers and would likely gladly accept all our asylum seekers to work in the fields. The extra produce not distributed to the Cuban population would be sold in Canadian grocery stores to pay for salaries and other maintenance costs.
Now, of course, why would the migrants want to do that? They would get a job in a beautiful country with free housing (honestly, better than whatever shitty apartments they're living in with 20 other people) and food security. Everybody wins, and we continue the time-honored Canadian tradition of helping the Cubans to cuck the 'mutts.
