I think they've been thrown into the worst era in regards to substance of character, a lack of belief in anything, morality versus degeneracy, among other things. I also understand that quite a few of them are either being raised by single parents or even by their own grandparents, so they might not have the best home life or home situation which might foster deep seated resentment among what could've been.
However in turn the lot of them have done nothing to change the tides, they've just sucked their teeth into the vapidness, the shallowness, the degeneracy, etc, because they know nothing else and can't learn if they don't know what there is to learn.
Plus with online media or digital worlds like Reddit telling them to think a certain way, conform to a set of expectations that are actually warped and unrealistic, an emphasis on parasocial relationships, spending too much time online warping their idea of how reality is and should be, as well as knowing too much about too many things, it's no wonder there's a mental illness crisis, too many distractions essentially.

I don't think they've had it the hardest though, it's a fight of knowing better and how to navigate, we have technology that makes our lives much more comfortable than half a century ago, we don't have to work as hard in certain departments, almost everyone has a smartphone now of which they can learn anything about everything and educate themselves on whatever topic interests them, in an ideal world the collective generation would be some of the smartest people to ever walk on earth.
