cantonese blog

Day 1 update:
I downloaded this browser extension that shows the pronunciation and meaning of a word if you hover your cursor over it, pretty useful. Also found a playlist of some really easy to comprehend cantonese and I'm doing the chin vocab thing too. I also downloaded pimsleurs cantonese course so I'll start on that later

I learned a few words today. I have to say, this is not like anything I'm used to.

i be grinding every day
I downloaded some anki deck that's like the fsi cantonese course but with sentences, I just play it until I can pronounce it correctly and I also write them down.

The nasal syllables are definitely weird, for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about in cantonese "ng" and "m" used by themselves are syllables (which are in turn words) for example the words 五 and 唔, ng5 and m4, which mean "five" and "not". Also, the way of asking questions is rather weird.
你係唔係土耳其人?

Are you Turkish?
Or, literally:
You are not are Turkish

Because I like how it sounds
I want to learn Mandarin and Cantonese but I don't like how either sounds. Nip sounds more pleasant but maybe it's the tranime. I don't want to learn nip though. I'm watching Three Kingdoms (ty doll) maybe that will help get me used to the "zchao zchu cho shi shao mao diang". Or maybe it won't. Will update. Why? For The Science.
