I don't know why you think that since all of the games are pretty newfag friendly, but fnv does stray away a little from the copy paste factions and story of the other games a little bit.
And I get what you mean, these two f3 and fnv games are a nightmare on pc, but I hope you have fun with it I guess. I suggest you refund if you can't fix it before 2 hours if you're using steam.

Idk, I just used the same philosophy I had with Elder Scrolls Arena and Daggerfall because they're similar series and nobody ever refuted my mindset (albeit I heard F1 and F2 are good), and I bought F3 during a sale months ago so that cost is sunk sadly I'm probably just going to have to crack the game I bought and own.
