Serious How do I get people to sit with me at lunch?

Do you ask to sit with other people or do you passively wait for them to sit with you?

have u identified anyone you feel drawn towards and ur curious about that you would like to know better?
and then just sitting down next to them without asking, thats what i would do
then id probably so some sort of greeting
and if they are like ??? wtf nigga
id just state my reasoning and intentions clearly and bluntly. be direct about it
 
option 1: if you have lunch lines, sit near where the lines end. that way, if someone wants to go sit down and eat, sitting with you is a quick option.
option 2: get there a little late so you can sit with someone instead of waiting for someone to sit with you.
option 3: give up and accept that people just might not want to sit with you. lots of people have social anxiety these days, so it's probably not a 'you' problem.
