Cringey ass question & thread but hey, we've all been there so my advice is try talking to girls who are either by themselves or part of a large group of other girls. If she's alone she won't mind you saying dumb shit (inevitable) because at least you're company, and if she's part of a large group of girls she's probably used to being overshadowed and will be flattered that you singled her out to converse.
