My great grandpa was 16 when the Soviet army took him in. My dad explained that he doesn't remember much except the moment he was URAAAAA charging a trench, a German popped out, and my grandpa's gun malfunctioned and so did the Germans through some sheer fortune. He said the German looked much much older, and that he charged my great 'pa with a knife but was then killed by another Soviet soldier. He has nightmares about it. He died recently, and my family donated all his equipment to a local museum. He kept his uniform and guns in pristine condition. Great guy.
A little scary to think how I would do in his place, at 16 I don't think I'd be able to handle it.
